An old store building

Bible Baptist Church began under the leadership and vision of Pastor Garland Jacobs. An old store building on Geer Street in Durham served as the first gathering place for the small congregation. The first service was held in April 1959. There were 29 believers in the first service.

Building a foundation

Three years later, the first building was erected on a five acre piece of property just down the road from the old store building on Geer Street. God continued to bless the ministry of Bible Baptist Church, yet more space would be needed.

Membership grows

A new sanctuary was built beside the existing building, and the first service was held there on March 19, 1970. Church membership had grown to approximately 300 people.

A new facility, a new community

The church voted in January 2004 to purchase 10.96 acres in southern Granville County on Gate Number Two Road, just off of Interstate 85. Construction began on the new facility, located approximately 10 miles from the Geer Street location, during Summer 2005 and the first service in the new building was held on Easter Sunday of 2006.

Pressing on

Today as we reflect on more than 60 years of the Lord’s providence over Bible Baptist Church, we press on toward the future under the leadership of Senior Pastor Jimmy Hall. Truly God has been good to Bible Baptist Church over the last 60 years. He has blessed us beyond measure. The mission of Bible Baptist Church has stayed consistent throughout its 60 year history. It still exists as a self supporting, independent Baptist church in accordance with the Word of God that presents the Gospel to the lost in order that they might receive Christ as their personal Savior.
